沈氏姊妹 (1945)
The women in the Shen Family were truly nobilities at that time.
They were elegant and gracious, at a time when most families in China didn't send their daughters to high schools, the Shen sisters all graduated from the top universities in Asia at the time. Among them were Aurora University of Shanghai(Catholic) and Fu Jen Catholic University of Beijing.
They represented the best of what girls can do in China under 5000 years of patriarchal history. This picture was taken in 1945.

CS Shen proposed to Huang, Peifeng on the day of Pearl Harbor attack, opened the chapter for Americans to enter the war; and had their wedding in June of 1942, the month of the Battle of Midway, marked the decisive victory for the Americans in the Pacific.
沈承書與妻子黃佩芬訂婚於日本偷襲珍珠港之日，標誌著美軍參與太平洋戰場的偉大意義. 1942年6月美國海軍在中途島海戰中大敗日本海軍，從此扭轉了整個太平洋海戰的局勢。 兩人為此慶祝並於同月舉辦婚禮。

In 1947, C.Z Shen(Left), the younger sister received an offer to study her Master's degree in the US, this was right before she left China for the US. What she didn't know was that this was the last time she got to see her family members before she visited China again in 1987. For 40 years she was separated from her family members, after Mao took over Mainland China, he cut all ties with the west.

Right before she boarded the ship leaving for the United States, C.Z Shen posed picture with her nephews.
The future before her was so unpredictable at that time, She was not able to see her family for 40 years. While her siblings in China were being Politically persecuted, the only place she could find peace was with Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore she dedicated herself to serve the lord as a Catholic Nun for the rest of her life.
沈承昭與侄子沈致襄，沈致隆合影於1947年. （當時去美國是座輪船）畢業於天主教大學之後, 沈承昭得知中共國與西方斷交，她無法和家人團聚。反右，文革時期知道家人會遭到政治迫害，她唯一可以找到平安的地方就是耶穌基督。於是她投身當了天主教的修女，用一生去扶持上帝。

The women of the Shen Family in the 1940s were the trailblazers of that time in China. They didn't care about the traditional status quo, didn't let the old rules to restrict them, but to break out of the old chains and live a life they aspired. In every measurable way, they were setting the examples for women of that time in China.
